Nintendo has revealed a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, showcasing all-new features and details for the upcoming adventure game starring Princess Zelda. Revealed earlier this year, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will mark the first time Princess Zelda serves as the main playable protagonist.

As the story goes, strange rifts have started to appear across the land of Hyrule, tearing apart the land and stealing its people, including Link. With the legendary swordsman gone missing, it's up to Princess Zelda to save the Kingdom of Hyrule.

To do so, Princess Zelda will utilize a powerful staff called the Tri Rod, which enables her to create imitations — or echoes — of objects that she comes across. Upon learning an Echo, Zelda is able to create it whenever she wants. This is the core gameplay mechanic as it can be used to solve environmental and combat puzzles.

As revealed in the trailer today, Zelda's journey isn't confined to the Kingdom of Hyrule. She can actually travel through these rifts to the mysterious Still World, where trees, fragments of land, people, and other items have been swallowed up and now float in the void.

Princess Zelda must navigate these rifts, using Echoes as the main way to carve a path between the fragmented lands. In these riffs lie dungeons to explore and bosses to confront. Each rift leads to its own area of Still World with its own defining unique features.

Still World also ties into the new mechanic revealed in today's trailer: Princess Zelda's swordfighter form. While Nintendo sought to give Princess Peach a mechanic unique to her adventure, she is able to take up a mysterious sword that grants her the powerful "swordfighter form." Rather than having to rely on Echoes to defeat enemies, she can use her sword powers to attack.

Zelda's Swordfighter form runs on a finite energy resource that can only be collected from the Still World. As such, you'll need to be smart about when to pick your battles with her sword.
