While
Detective Pikachu is now widely known for the successful, live-action movie, it was actually first a video-game. That is, a video-game that will soon be getting a sequel.
The
Detective Pikachu adventure game released exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. Just like the movie of the same name; the game's saw the titular Pokémon team up with Tim Goodman (the player character) in order to find clues and solve mysteries.
Tsunekazu Ishihara, The Pokémon Company's CEO, recently took to the stage of the 2019 Pokémon press conference (via
Toonado) to announce a sequel to the 3DS title that will release on the Nintendo Switch.
Ishihara also revealed that Creatures Inc., the developers of the first instalment, will return to helm the second. It's also said that the game's story will pick up right where the last one left off: with Pikachu still an amnesiac and Tim's father still lost.
Though it's likely that the sequel has been announced due to the immense success of the
Detective Pikachu movie, it's worth noting that the game itself was quite a success in its own right - having been praised for its gameplay and story in many positive reviews.
