XENOBLADE CHRONICLES X Difficult To Port To The Nintendo Switch According To Developer

Xenoblade Chronicles X is an action role-playing game developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo that was released in 2015 for the Nintendo Wii U. The game is part of the Xeno series that originated with SquareSoft's Xenogears back in 1998.

The Xenoblade Chronicles series, in particular, originated on the Wii with the original Xenoblade Chronicles being released in 2010 in Japan, and in 2012 worldwide, eventually even being ported to the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. As part of the the Nintendo Switch's line-up for its first year, Monolith Soft also announced the long-awaited Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which was released worldwide in December of 2017.

As somewhat of a spin-off to the Xenoblade Chronicles, we have the Wii U's Xenoblade Chronicles X, that had players fighting to survive in the hostile planet of Mira; fighting vile beasts armed with giant mechs called Skells. The game was received very positively, with critics praising the game's presentation, intuitive controls, and overall game design, but criticising the game's shallow story. Regardless, it is a game that many hold dearly and keep wishing for it to be ported to the Nintendo Switch; especially since the Switch has been getting ports of quite a bunch of Nintendo Wii U titles.

In a recent interview with US Gamer, Xeno series creator and director, Tetsuya Takahashi, was asked whether Xenoblade Chronicles X would be getting a port on the Nintendo Switch. Takahashi thinks that porting the game would be very difficult but not impossible.

"Personally speaking, I'd love to play the game on the Switch, but it would be really difficult to make it", replied Takahashi by adding that the main problem would be money. "It's a massive game. Re-creating it would be really difficult".

In all fairness, one of the many things that Xenoblade Chronicles X relied on, in order to make the experience a lot more enjoyable, was the Wii U's bane of its existence: the Gamepad. Xenoblade Chronicles X made heavy use of the Wii U's Gamepad in order to manage resources on the fly, check the map, main menus, and access other features that would make the experience incredibly slow without it.

A sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X is still possible, especially since Tetsuya Takahashi has stated, in the past, that he wants to make Xenoblade Chronicles X2 for the Nintendo Switch, as well as Xenoblade Chronicles 3, so all we have to do now is wait patiently until the game's get made, but a port of Xenoblade Chronicles X is rather unlikely and a lot of people would still prefer a sequel instead.
