Nintendo has recently revealed that they are cutting the price of the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con controllers, which is a change that the Kyoto-based company has revealed to be permanent. There is one caveat, though, as this has only been confirmed to affect units sold in Japan.
As first spotted by Japanese Nintendo, the information was officially shared on Nintendo Japan's website, where it was revealed that the price of a single Joy-Con(be it left or right) will be permanently cut to ¥3,740 + tax as of next month.
For reference, the price of a single Joy-Con controller is currently ¥4,928, which amounts to ¥4,480 plus tax, and will be revised to ¥4,114, whic is the equivalent of ¥3,740 plus tax. To further illustrate, and in terms of dollars, a single Joy-Con usually retails for $42,5 USD, but the problem here is that Nintendo only sells them in pairs that cost $79.99 USD.
Now, Nintendo has not revealed whether they are also intending to permanently cut the price of the Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con controllers here in the West. With the ongoing Joy-Con drift lawsuit, it would be wise for the company to, at the very least, cut its price here in the West too.
With that said, if Nintendo has already considered to permanently cut the price of the controllers in Japan, it is only a matter of time until they realise it is in their best interest to do the same worldwide; while at it, they could also give consumers the chance to purchase them individually. Just saying.
