In a surprise announcement today, Obsidian Entertainment revealed a partnership with developer Virtuos that will bring The Outer Worlds to Nintendo Switch. The port of the highly anticipated single-player, sci-fi RPG will release on Nintendo's hybrid console following its main launch on October 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Accompanying the announcement was a video featuring The Outer Worlds' senior producer, Matthew Singh, who explained the basic premise of the upcoming game, along with its many intriguing RPG features.
"At Obsidian, we really value player choice and consequence. That's something that we spent a lot of time on for our games, and The Outer Worlds has a lot of it - all the way through," Singh explains. "We really want the player to be able to drive the storyline of the game and we do that by allowing you to have ultimately flexibility. We really like to play in a gray area. We really don't have a lot of binary 'good, bad' actions." Singh goes on to state that the choices you make throughout your game will have a lasting impact on the story and characters you meet on your adventure.
Singh also touches on the unique "flaw" system in which the game will monitor your gameplay and respond with an offered "flaw" that could impact your current gameplay, but provide a perk for another character in another realm. What's more, the characters in your game will react to that flaw in conversations.
The Outer Worlds launches on October 25, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The Nintendo Switch release date has not yet been announced.
