Paper Mario: The Origami King has turned out to be quite the pleasant surprise for fans of the long-running Paper Mario series. While many players still agree that this is not the game they had been wanting, they cannot help but praise pretty much every aspect of it.
So, what exactly is it that prevents fans from giving this recently released title a perfect score? Many seem to agree on the fact that the combat system is too gimmicky and rather pointless; other than that, the game is as charming as any Paper Mario game out there, and not only critics agree, but sales also support the game's popularity.
A few days after the game was released, information collected by GfK revealed that Paper Mario: The Origami King had already managed to set a new record for the series in the United Kingdom; selling more boxed copies than Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Colour Splash combined.
Today we have some new information about Paper Mario: The Origami King; this time provided by NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella — who reveals that the somewhat recently released title has become the Paper Mario series' best launch in the United States, with launch month sales that more than doubled the sales of the Nintendo GameCube's fan-favourite Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
It is also worth mentioning that this information has only included physical sales, which is more than fair considering that the first three titles in the Paper Mario series, which includes Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, were never released digitally.
The kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace! Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they team up with unlikely allies like Bowser and the Toads to battle evil Folded Soldiers.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
