When Nintendo announced Paper Mario: The Origami King, players were excited to see the series finally being given some love. Everything looked great, although some fans were concerned about the game's new, and rather gimmicky combat system.
Paper Mario fans have actually been disappointed with the later entries in the series, as Nintendo and developer Intelligent Systems have strayed from the series' RPG roots, and have turned Paper Mario into a more action-adventure-oriented series.
This past weekend, Paper Mario: The Origami King was finally released, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, and the reception has been positive amongst critics, and a tad mixed amongst long-time fans of the series. In spite of this somewhat mixed reception, most agree that the game is a good game, it just isn't the Paper Mario they've wanted.
Interestingly enough, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Paper Mario: The Origami King has had quite the launch in the United Kingdom; selling more than the Nintendo 3DS' Paper Mario: Sticker Star and the Nintendo Wii U's Paper Mario: Colour Splash combined.
Paper Mario: The Origami King has also been revealed to have sold more copies than the Nintendo Wii's Super Paper Mario, which makes the recently released title the fastest-selling game in the Paper Mario series; quite the achievement, considering that only boxed copies were considered, since Super Paper Mario was never released digitally.
The kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace! Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they team up with unlikely allies like Bowser and the Toads to battle evil Folded Soldiers.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
