League of Legends Classic is almost here. The new game mode that takes players back to the early days of the game launches on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and Riot is doing something unusual with the rollout. Instead of staggering the release alongside the usual regional patch times, League Classic will go live simultaneously across nearly every server at the same global moment so that no one misses out on the fun.

That global start time is 11 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, July 29 (minus China). Once the clock hits that mark, the mode becomes available inside the regular League of Legends client for everyone.

Here is what that means in local time for the major regions:

  • North America (NA): 8 a.m. PDT / 11 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, July 29
  • Europe West (EUW): 5 p.m. CEST on Wednesday, July 29
  • United Kingdom players on EUW: 4 p.m. BST on Wednesday, July 29
  • Europe Nordic & East (EUNE): 5 p.m. CEST on Wednesday, July 29
  • Oceania (OCE): 1 a.m. AEST on Thursday, July 30
  • Brazil: 12 p.m. BRT on Wednesday, July 29
  • Japan: 12 a.m. JST on Thursday, July 30

Players on Oceania servers will be the ones staying up late or waking up early, while European and North American players get more reasonable afternoon or morning windows.

What League Classic Actually Is

League Classic is not a pure historical recreation of a single old patch. Riot is using Season 3 as the main framework and then pulling the “greatest hits” from the early years of the game. Champions, items, runes, masteries, and the map itself will be reverted to older versions, but the mode includes modern quality-of-life improvements that have been added over the last 17 years. The result is meant to feel familiar to veterans while remaining approachable for newer players who never experienced the original systems.

At launch the mode will feature 60 champions: the original 40 plus 20 additional champions that were released between 2009 and 2013 and hand-selected by the team. Not every champion from that era will be available right away. Future additions will be decided through voting by “The Council,” which is simply the name Riot is giving to the League Classic player base. The team has said champions may be added more frequently than the historical two-week cadence if the voting supports it.

Some of the old versions of champions were notoriously broken by today’s standards. Riot has already stated that extreme outliers will receive balance adjustments specific to the Classic environment rather than being left in their original overpowered state. The mode also has its own dedicated development team, so it will not simply mirror whatever happens on the main game.

If you really want to get the full juice and go in depth, here is the full breakdown of the launch patch from none other than Phreak himself. The video goes into almost everything you would want to know about it.

How to Play

There is no separate client or special download required. Once the mode goes live at the times listed above, it will appear inside the regular League of Legends client. Log in as usual, select the Classic queue, and queue up. The same account and friends list you already use will work.

Because it is a global simultaneous release rather than the normal staggered patch schedule, queue times should be healthy across all regions from the moment it opens. Players who normally wait for their local server’s maintenance window will not have to this time.

Why It Matters

For longtime players, League Classic is a chance to revisit the version of the game that many of them fell in love with. The slower pace, the old itemization, the original masteries, and the more limited champion pool create a different kind of League than the modern version. Newer players get something closer to a history lesson with modern polish, which could help them understand why certain champions or items feel the way they do today.

Riot has been careful to frame the mode as a living experience rather than a static museum piece. Balance changes, champion additions through player voting, and ongoing support from a dedicated team suggest the company expects League Classic to stick around for a while rather than disappear after a short event window.

The launch also arrives alongside Patch 26.15, but the Classic mode itself is timed separately from the usual regional patch rollouts. That decision should prevent the usual staggered experience where some regions get new content hours or even a full day earlier than others.

If you plan to jump in right at launch, set a reminder for the local time listed for your server. The global 11 a.m. EDT start means most players in North America and Europe will be able to queue up during the afternoon or evening, while Oceania players will be looking at a very early Thursday morning. The mode is free to play for anyone with an existing League of Legends account, so there is no barrier beyond simply being online when the servers flip the switch.

League Classic represents one of the bigger experimental modes Riot has tried in recent years. Whether it becomes a permanent home for players who prefer the older style of the game or simply a popular nostalgia trip remains to be seen, but the simultaneous global launch at least ensures everyone gets to start the experience together.
