Nintendo and Game Freak have finally delivered on their promise, by unveiling the long-awaited Generation 8 of
Pokémon games — coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch:
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield.
The announcement was made during today's Pokémon Direct, where President and CEO of The Pokémon Company — Tsunekazu Ishihara — who introduced us to the two brand-new titles that are expected to release, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch,
in 2019.
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield will introduce us to Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble; the Grass, Fire, and Water type starter Pokémon that players will choose at the very beginning of their journey. The new games introduce us to the Galar region, which will also feature never-before-seen Pokémon for players to catch at their leisure.
Take a look:
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be available for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
