New information shared by the UK boxed charts reveals that
Pokémon Sword and
Pokémon Shield have had a phenomenal launch, propelling themselves to the top position, and even managing to beat out Electronic arts and Respawn Entertainment's long-awaited
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
What's even more interesting is that the
Sword version of Game Freak's new
Pokémon title is already the number 1 title in the United Kingdom, as well as the biggest exclusive title and third biggest boxed game launch of the year, while
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order came in at number 2 in the UK charts.
Pokémon Shield is currently sitting in third place, while the
Pokémon Sword & Pokémon Shield: Dual Edition also made the top 10 taking the 7th spot. Considering that there are currently three different versions available, this is still a pretty big launch for Game Freak's new entry in the
Pokémon series.
When it comes to the
Pokémon series as a whole, the launch of
Pokémon Sword & Shield trails behind
Pokémon Sun & Moon; with debut sales at a 39% lower than the Nintendo 3DS game. It is worth mentioning, however, that
Pokémon Sun & Moon came out on a Wednesday while
Pokémon Sword & Shield released on a Friday, so those two extra days definitely helped the Nintendo 3DS title.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon live together in this region, and they’ve worked together to develop the industries here.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are currently available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
