During the last year, Sega has been releasing some short animated series based on Sonic the Hedgehog. These miniseries are actually made to promote the Sonic Mania Plus and Team Sonic Racing video games — which is why they were released on YouTube for everyone to watch; completely free of charge.

The first miniseries was Sonic Mania Adventures, which is somewhat of a tie-in with the Sonic Mania Plus game, and every episode was filled with charm; immediately making it a fan-favourite amongst fans of the Blue Hedgehog.

With all the success that Sonic Mania Adventures and Team Sonic Racing Overdrive had, fans have been clamouring for more of these charmingly animated miniseries; perhaps, even, a fully fledged Sonic the Hedgehog television show.

For those who have been longing for Sega to make another Sonic the Hedgehog animated series we may have some potentially good news, as Yukio Kusumoto — Director of Animation at Sega — has mentioned that he personally believes the world is now ready for a new Sonic the Hedgehog TV show.

"I think the world is definitely ready for another TV show, and I would love to work on it. There are several discussions and this is coming from me personally [...] I would love Sonic to continue, so I'll keep trying to put more stuff out there," revealed Kusumoto during an unpublished-until-now interview that took place earlier this year.

The last Sonic the Hedgehog animated series was the fairly divisive Sonic Boom — which saw its final episode airing in November of 2017. While the show may have been divisive at first, it has now managed to build somewhat of a cult following that actually want the series to make a comeback.

With the Sonic the Hedgehog movie releasing in February, and fans clamouring for a new TV show, chances for Sega-produced animated series are pretty high right now. We'll juts have to wait and see, but at least we know that there have been discussions about it — which is always good news for fans of the Blue Blur.
