Drunken Goddess Reflux Cancels Its Public Demo Over Fears AI Copycats Could Beat It To Launch

Alliance Arts pulled the public demo for the WHO YOU drinking game days before it went live, swapping it for a closed playtest out of worry that AI-made clones could hit stores first.

Alliance Arts has canceled the public demo for Drunken Goddess Reflux, the Russian roulette drinking game from the team behind Yunyun Syndrome!? Rhythm Psychosis. The demo was supposed to go live on Monday (October 19th). Instead, the publisher is replacing it with a closed online play session for a limited number of players, and one of its two reasons is not something you see every day. It is worried that people will use AI to copy the game before it even comes out.

The publisher posted the change on Friday (October 16th) with an apology for the short notice. In Japan, the game is called PUKEY GODDESS SHOT TRICK.

Why The Demo Got Pulled

The full notice on the Alliance Arts website gives two reasons. The first is about streaming and posting rules. The demo was going to come with restrictions on what players could share, and the publisher said it "concluded that we are not currently in a position to properly handle and manage those restrictions."

The second reason is the one getting attention. "We are concerned that, based on the content of the demo, works imitating or replicating this game's presentation and gameplay could be quickly produced using AI or other tools and released ahead of the game's launch," the notice reads.

It is an interesting worry for a small game to have, but it makes some sense here. Drunken Goddess Reflux is built on a simple, very clippable idea. A shot glass version of Russian roulette, one demon, one bar, and a lot of drinking. A short demo would show off most of the core loop, and a quick knockoff with a similar look could plausibly land on storefronts before the real thing.

How To Get Into The Closed Playtest

Players who still want to try it early can apply for the closed playtest through the official WHO YOU Discord server. Here is how it works, based on the publisher's playtest notice:

  • The playtest runs on Steam from Friday (October 23rd) to Saturday (October 31st), Japan time.
  • Applications close on Thursday (October 22nd) at 11:59 PM JST.
  • Applicants need to be 15 or older, and minors need consent from a parent or guardian.
  • Participants are chosen by lottery, and winners get a product code by email.
  • Feedback is collected through a form on the Discord.

That is a much smaller audience than a public Steam demo would have reached, but it keeps the build in the hands of people the team can actually keep track of.

What Drunken Goddess Reflux Is

The game is a drinking survival game set in Pandemonium, a bar in Hell. You face off against Femme Soule, a liquor-soaked demon who, according to the Steam page, "loves you enough to kill you." Each round is a shot glass game of Russian roulette, and the drunker you get, the more the rules start to break down. The goal is to get the demon wasted before she gets you. The Steam page promises "seven flavors of ruin" for anyone who survives the night.

It is being developed by Alliance Arts and WHO YOU, the team that made Yunyun Syndrome!? Rhythm Psychosis with WSS playground. The staff list on Steam is stacked:

  • Producer and scenario writer: WHO YOU (Fuyuki Hayashi)
  • Art director, character designer, and animator: odyk
  • Theme song and BGM: Aiobahn +81
  • Lead game designer: Masatoshi Tokuoka
  • Programmer: oyatsu
  • Voice: Nanahira

The theme song, "DEMON'S SHOT," was composed and arranged by Aiobahn +81, with lyrics and vocals from DEMONDICE.

Release Date And Price

Alliance Arts announced earlier this month that the game launches on December 8th, 2026, with a base price of 666 yen. The publisher joked that even the price is demon spec. The Steam page for Drunken Goddess Reflux still lists the release date as to be announced for now, and the game is coming to Windows PC.

Femme Soule is already getting merch too, with a 1/7 scale figure from FuRyu's F:NEX line in the works.

Do you think canceling the demo over AI copycats was the right call, or should Alliance Arts have released it publicly anyway?
