Yesterday, Christopher Dring from GamesIndustry.biz teased us about revealing a list of the Top 20 best-selling boxed video games of 2018, leaving us with some info about
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe selling better in 2018 than it ever did in 2017.
Well, today GamesIndustry.biz finally revealed that list, and the results are expected, but there are also some surprises there. First things first, the best selling title of 2018, in the United Kingdom, is EA Sports'
FIFA 19 — which doesn't really come as a surprise given that football(or soccer) is the most popular sport in the UK — selling a staggering 1.89 million physical copies.
Rockstar Games'
Red Dead Redemption 2 trails behind
FIFA 19 with a solid 1.76 million physical copies sold in 2018, while Activision and Treyarch's
Call of Duty: Balck Ops 4 manages to snatch the third place with an impressive 1.7 million boxed copies sold this past year.
On the fourth place we have Insomniac Games'
Marvel's Spider-Man, with a huge gap in sales by managing to sell 676 thousand copies, and then another noticeable gap for
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sitting in the fifth place with 458 thousand sales in physical copies.
As a follow up to the
tease from yesterday,
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold over 125 thousand more physical copies than in 2017 — the year the game actually launched on the Nintendo Switch — showing that even if the game is a port, it still had a lot going for it and is the Switch's best-selling title in the UK; which is no small feat.
