Metal Gear is a series of games, created by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima, developed and published by Konami that saw the day of light on the 13th of July 1987 for the MSX home computer—although most people were introduced to the franchise when Metal Gear Solid was released for the PlayStation in 1998.

A Metal Gear Solid movie was announced back in 2012 and was finally able to land a director when Jordan Vogt-Roberts joined the project in 2014. Vogt-Roberts directed The Kings of Summer in 2013, which was his first project as a director, and would later go on to direct Kong: Skull Island in 2017.

Today is the Metal Gear series' 31st anniversary and, in order to commemorate the occasion, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has shared a video featuring Colonel Campbell—from Metal Gear Solid—in a video recording that harkens back to the 1998 game calls he and main character Solid Snake would have in it.

As per the video, Colonel Campbell tells us that important information about the Metal Gear Solid Movie Project has been stolen and lies behind enemy lines. Snake has been sent on a secret mission to retrieve that information, so we should have some interesting news about the project sooner than later. Campbell also mentions that for the next 31 days, they will be releasing 31 never before seen nano-machine-infused-artwork pieces—as well as some suprises along the way—including today's artwork.

It looks like we're getting some proper information about the Metal Gear Solid movie that seems to be finally underway. Colonel Campbell telling us that Snake is already working on the case is pretty good news so—throughout the months of July and August—we may end up getting more than some official concept art. Perhaps new information about the cast, or even an official release date for the long-awaited movie? Let's keep our fingers crossed.
