Mario Kart is a series of racing games by Nintendo that features characters from the
Super Mario Bros. series, as well as some guests from other series such as
Donkey Kong,
The Legend of Zelda and, more recently,
Splatoon. The first game in the series, titled
Super Mario Kart, came out for the Super Nintendo back in 1992 giving birth one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises since.
Now, Mattel and Nintendo have teamed up to bring us a new line of
Mario Kart-themed Hot Wheels toys that will be releasing in June of 2019. By the looks of it, the confirmed characters that will be getting a toy are Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario, and Rosalina, although more characters could be confirmed in the future. The toys are also inspired by
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, given that the
karts that the characters are dreiving are directly taken from the latest game in the series.
Each of these toys will retail for $4.99 and they will make its debut at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. While the toys won't be available for purchases at the Comic-Con, fans will still be able to check them out at Nintendo and Mattel's respective booths.
Mattel has also announced that they will be making
Mario Kart-inspired track courses. Perhaps they will even add magnets to them so that the toys can perfectly emulate the anti-gravity feature in
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? We can only keep our fingers crossed and wait to see what Mattel does with it.
