A new rumor has been going around the internet suggesting that a character from Square Enix's acclaimed
Dragon Quest series could be joining the massive roster of Nintendo and Bandai Namco's
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
It all started when Shinya Kumazaki, HAL Laboratory concept designer, posted an intriguing image on his Instagram account, having popular Nintendo character Kirby standing next to what he referred to as "the Brave's Shield" from the
Dragon Quest series.
The shield in question has been used by Erdrick, a recurring character from Square Enix's
Dragon Quest series, and seeing Kirby standing next to it has led fans of Nintendo's crossover fighting series to believe that he will be joining the roster of
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Kumazaki posts a lot of pictures with
Kirby figurines and plushiers almost on a daily basis, so there's no reson to believe this one could be hinting at Erdrick being a newcomer in the
Super Smash Bros. series.
What makes the rumor interesting is the fact that, so far,
Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife is the only Square Enix character in the roster — and having a character from the
Dragon Quest series making an appearance is something more than likely.
HAL Laboratory has absolutely nothing to do with the current
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but that doesn't mean that one of its employees(Shinya Kumazaki in this case) couldn't have teased an upcoming character. Then again, this is only but a rumor — albeit one that is plausible. We'll just have to wait and hope for either Square Enix or Nintendo to confirm or deny this particular rumor.
