This year SNK is celebrating their 40th Anniversary and, in order to celebrate, they announced a collection of games and teased a new console back in April. The game announced is a Nintendo Switch exclusive simply titled
SNK 40th Anniversary Collection and will include some of their greatest hits, with the promise to announce even more games that they will add to the collection, as well as offering a
Limited Edition of the game.
Another interesting announcement was that SNK were planning on revealing a new Neo Geo, but they only teased it by keeping it, quite literally, under wraps. By the shape of the item under wraps we could somewhat guess that they were going for that arcade cabinet design, which would've been very fitting given that the Neo Geo not only was a home console, but an arcade machine as well.
Today, thanks to YouTube news channel
Spawn Wave, we get a first look at the console now called
Neo Geo Mini, as well as some of the console's features and a full list of games that will come pre-installed with the system.
The report comes from an anonymous source that mentions the console itself will be very portable but not necessarily a handheld. The
Neo Geo Mini has a 3.5' screen and built-in joystick controller, but it will be possible to connect other gamepads in what looks to be USB-C type ports. The console will also have outputs to connect the console to a larger screen via HDMI, headphone jack, and DC adaptor port.
In regards to the games that will come pre-installed with the Neo Geo Mini, we can see that the console will feature 40 games and that they focused heavily on
The King Of Fighters and
Metal Slug series, without leaving out some of their other great hits such as
Fatal Fury,
Art of Fighting, and
King of the Monsters, among others.
