Sonic has had a pretty good year since Sonic Mania released in August of last year—which became the highest-rated Sonic game in 15 years stripping the title from Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast with an 89 score on Metacritic.

Ever since, Sonic Mania Plus was announced and was recently released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Sonic Mania Plus is actually an add-on for Sonic Mania, which came as a free update for people who already owned the game but it was also released physically for consoles and PC. It's worth mentioning that the original Sonic Mania didn't get a physical copy upon its release.

Now, with a little bit of help from the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Sonic Mania Plus has officially become the highest-rated game in 25 years with a score of 90 on Metacritic. The Sonic game that sits at the number one spot on Metacritic, with a respectable 93 Metascore, is Sonic CD—released in 1993 for the Sega CD. Our hats are off to you, Sonic Mania Plus.
