In March of last year, Square Enix announced that they were opening a brand-new studio that would be led by Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata. This new studio was called Luminous Productions and was revealed to already be working on a brand-new Triple-A intellectual property.

In November of that year, however, Hajime Tabata announced that he was parting ways with Square Enix, and that he was creating another studio(JP Games) to start developing as an independent developer; leaving people wondering if this Triple-A project for Luminous Productions had been cancelled.

Thankfully, this mysterious new intellectual property hasn't been canned yet, and in a recent interview with Famitsu — Luminous Productions Lead Concept Artist Yuuki Matsuzawa revealed that the studio is still working on this game — although it may not be releasing any time soon.

According to Matsuzawa "There’s not much we can tell you for now (laughs). We decided on certain elements of the game, but others elements are still under consideration." Matsuzawa then added that "People like me who are at the top of the development process are very busy. It’s a brand new IP, so some things about it are different compared to what we’ve done until now. Meaning it’s a project difficult to work on and takes a lot of time."

Since Luminous Productions is still a new studio, it is to be expected for the studio to take a little bit longer to create a brand-new IP and deliver a new game.

Although Tabata left in November of last year, Square Enix  has already found a new Head of Studio for Luminous Productions in Final Fantasy XV Lead Programmer Takeshi Arakami, so it is safe to say that both the studio and their new intellectual property are in good hands.
