Polyphony Digital is an internal Japanese first-party video game development studio of Sony Interactive Entertainment best known for their work on the acclaimed and wildly popular
Gran Turismo racing game series. The developer has proudly announced that they have opened a brand new studio in the Ueno district of Tokyo, making it their third studio in Japan, and fifth in total worldwide.
It looks like the newly established studio is going to be a support studio to the older ones, especially those in Japan (the other Polyphony studios are based in Amsterdam and Los Angeles). The developer’s recruitment page indicates that this new division was set up in Ueno due to “
its proximity to the Tokyo University of the Arts," presumably working on a next-gen
Gran Turismo title.
The latest entry in Polyphony Digital's
Gran Turismo racing series, the
Gran Turismo spin-off titled
Sport, was released in October 2017 exclusively for PlayStation 4 to generally positive reviews.
Gran Turismo Sport is the world’s first racing experience to be built from the ground up to bring global, online competitions sanctioned by the highest governing body of international motorsports, the FIA (Federation International Automobile). Create your legacy as you represent and compete for your home country or favorite manufacturer through multiple race class, including GT3, Prototype, Rally, and more.
