Obsidian Entertainment, the creators of
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Alpha Protocol, and
Fallout: New Vegas, are currently working on
The Outer Worlds and
Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire's final DLC, called
Forgotten Sanctum. While those two games have been officially revealed, it seems that Obsidian is also developing two more unannounced projects, at least according to the studio's CEO.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Obsidian Entertainment's CEO Feargus Urquhart had a chance to talk about the recent acquisition by Microsoft, joining the company's Xbox Game Studios, and even their "three-ish" current development teams. If Urquhart's words are anything to go by, two "smaller" Obsidian development divisions are simultaneously dealing with two mysterious projects.
"
We have The Outer Worlds team, which is the majority of our development," Urquhart says in the video below. "
We saw the small group of people that are finishing up in Pillars of Eternity. And then we have two other teams that are starting things up." Considering that the said teams are not as big as
The Outer Worlds one, I wouldn’t expect anything as big as the
Firefly-inspired role-playing game.
In
TOW, your avatar awakes from hibernation on a ship that was lost in transit to the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, and it's up to you to find your purpose in this colorful, abandoned world – and maybe even save it. Be sure to check out the full interview with Urquhart:
In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, the furthest colony from Earth located at the edge of the galaxy, only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy it. As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.
The Outer Worlds will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.
