U.S. Video Game Sales In 2018 Break Record Highs, $43.4 Billion

The video game industry in the United States has been steadily growing every year. According to the ESA and NPD Group, 2018 was a record-breaking year for the industry. Here is more.

According to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and The NPD Group, the video game industry in the United States has broken sales records in 2018. Fans and players throughout the nation spent a record-breaking 43.4 billion dollars in video games, these numbers include: hardware revenue, peripherals and software revenue.

ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Loui says the following "The impressive economic growth of the industry announced today parallels the growth of the industry in mainstream American culture. Across the nation, we count people of all backgrounds and stages of life among our most passionate video game players and fans. Interactive entertainment stands today as the most influential form of entertainment in America."

The companies' research says that the game industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the America. There are 150 million confirmed players and over 220,000 jobs, with more popping up as schools offer degrees in the field and companies look for talented individuals.

Green Man Gaming provides these numbers and statistics. They also report that the total play time on Steam increased an 88% from previous years. One of the most popular PC games, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive had a total of 193 million in-game hours.
