Shovel Knight was definitely a very pleasant surprise, as it was one of the first games to prove that independent developers like Yacht Club Games had a lot more to offer than people, at the time, gave them credit for. Of course that is all in the past now, and Yacht Club Games has established itself as one of, if not, the most popular indie developers out there.
Just in December of last year,
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove — the ultimate version of the critically acclaimed 2D platformer — was released to the public, putting an end to a 6-year development journey, and finally giving players the definitive experience.
Now that Yacht Club Games has already released the definitive version of
Shovel Knight, fans of the treasure digging knight have been wondering if the developer has already thought about making a sequel to the game. A recent interview has revealed that this has been, as a matter of fact, discussed at the studio.
During an interview with DualShockers at PAX East, Yacht Club Games artist Sandy Gordon has revealed that "
that entire saga of games[Shovel Knight] is complete," further explaining that "
this is definitely not the end of Shovel Knight."
When Gordon was asked to elaborate, the artist replied and said that at Yacht Club Games they "
hope for a lot more Shovel Knight down the road." Gordon then adds: "
sure that'll happen at some point: it's something we talk about a lot."
While a brand-new entry in the main line of
Shovel Knight titles may still be a few years away from even becoming a reality, it's definitely reassuring to know that Yacht Club Games have still got a lot more to offer, and projects like
Shovel Knight Dig and
Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon are further proof of it.
