Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.2.1 Introduces 22 New Endgame Runes for Advanced Crafting

With Patch 0.2.1, Grinding Gear Games is revamping the endgame crafting experience in Path of Exile 2 by adding a total of 22 new socketable runes. These additions are meant to expand the potential of your builds by pushing the power ceiling of crafting beyond early-game utility and into valuable late-game upgrades.

The Role of Socketables in PoE2

The socketable crafting system is one of many tools players use in PoE2 to customize their builds. In the early campaign, socketables help fill gaps like missing stats, elemental resistances, or attributes. However, as players transition into the endgame and acquire optimized gear, these early-game socketables often become obsolete. All of that will be changing with patch 0.2.1.

22 New Runes - All World Drops

The upcoming patch will introduce 22 new Runes, all designed specifically as world drops only. These runes cannot be crafted or upgraded from older ones, meaning you’ll need to find them through world drops and gameplay OR through trading.

Here are a few highlights:

They showed off three different runes screenshots and descriptions to give us an idea.

Tacati's Soul Core of Affliction

This is one of 14 new Soul Cores that will drop from Endgame Ultimatum encounters in the Trial of Chaos. Soul Cores represent high-impact crafting options, designed to provide unique and potent benefits for advanced builds.

Talisman of Thruldana

This is one of 7 new Talismans that can be looted from Azmerian Spirit-possessed enemies. Like Soul Cores, Talismans are aimed at providing rare and powerful modifiers tailored to specific builds.

These new socketables are not only stronger they are also intended to be rare and valuable. GGG has confirmed these aren’t throwaway additions you’ll pick up constantly. Instead, they are designed to be mid-to-long term progression tools that reward players who dive deep into PoE2’s endgame.

Patch Delay And More Content With It

While patch 0.2.1 was initially scheduled for release this week, GGG has announced a slight delay to allow for polish and testing. The patch is now expected to go live next week, and even more content including new Mythic Unique Items will be coming with it.

With the upcoming rune overhaul, Path of Exile 2 players will have a stronger incentive to engage with the crafting system deep into the endgame for more power and creativity. Get ready to chase powerful drops of socketables and shape your perfect build!
