Jagex has officially announced RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a brand-new open-world survival crafting game set within the beloved RuneScape universe. This fresh take on the franchise will take players to uncharted lands, deep survival mechanics, and a mysterious new storyline. The game is now available to wishlist on Steam, with Early Access set to launch in Spring 2025. Check out the official teaser for it down below:
Dragonwilds takes place on Ashenfall, a forgotten continent within the world of Gielinor. Long-lost and now awakened by the return of dragons, this new land is teeming with danger, ancient magic, and legendary creatures. Players must gather resources, build shelter, master crafting, and level up their skills to survive the untamed wilderness—and ultimately face off against the formidable Dragon Queen. Whether you choose to go solo or team up with up to three friends, Ashenfall promises an adventure full of mystery and high fantasy.
Built using Unreal Engine 5, RuneScape: Dragonwilds features a beautifully handcrafted world infused with wild, transformative magic. The game introduces an innovative progression system where players wield the power of Anima, a magical energy that fuels unique gameplay mechanics. You’ll summon spectral tools, instantly repair gear, and learn new spells, crafting recipes, and skills as you advance. From chopping down trees with a ghostly axe to battling iconic RuneScape monsters, every choice you make will shape your survival experience.
According to Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy, Dragonwilds is more than just a spin-off—it’s a bold new entry in the franchise. “We’re so excited to finally give players a glimpse at the next entry in the RuneScape franchise,” said Bellamy. “It’s an entirely new experience, set within the world of Gielinor, but it stays true to what RuneScape is all about: progression, discovery, and community.”
They also released a gameplay teaser on IGN's Youtube for fans to enjoy, check it out down below:
Development on Dragonwilds has already involved input from dedicated RuneScape fans through closed alpha tests, and Jagex promises community feedback will continue to play a key role throughout Early Access. A team of veteran developers is behind the project, aiming to deliver a survival RPG experience that feels both fresh and faithful to long-time fans.
For those wanting more information, RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be having a special deep dive on Twitch at 17:00 BST on April 15th. Until then, don’t forget to wishlist the game on Steam and get ready for a wild new RuneScape adventure in Spring 2025.
