NCsoft and ArenaNet announced last week that the Guild Wars 2 closed beta would be open, but only for 48 hours. This week the publisher and developer have released the closed beta signup numbers, and they're really quite impressive.

Signups for the next Guild Wars 2 closed beta test reached one-million signups in just over 48 hours. According to the publisher, this response from the gaming community, recording more than 4,000 signups a minute during peak periods, is testament to players' demand for something new.

"We built Guild Wars 2 with the notion to bring players together to experience what a true online world experience should be, and we couldn't be more excited with the reception we're receiving from gamers wanting to get in and play our game," said Mike O'Brien, president of ArenaNet and executive producer of Guild Wars 2.

Having spent a little time with Guild Wars 2 back in July, we're VERY excited for the next chapter in the Guild Wars 2 franchise.

Guild Wars 2's next closed beta test is scheduled for late-March and will provide players with an opportunity to experience its deep RPG game elements, epic World vs. World battles and inviting social gameplay while helping the team load test the servers.

About Guild Wars 2

A full 250 years after the original Guild Wars, massive upheavals, cataclysms, and globe-spanning events have changed the world of Tyria. Human civilization is in decline. Other races are rising up, taking control over large portions of the world; the balance of power has shifted. The dragons have awoken.

Guild Wars 2 is a visually stunning MMO that will offer players the epic grandeur of a massive role playing environment combined with the challenge of world-class player vs. player competition. Building on the success and lessons of Guild Wars, ArenaNet is creating an MMO that lets gamers play the way they want, while at the same time retaining the no-subscription-fee business model that has made the original Guild Wars so popular.
