A Dungeons & Dragons And World of Warcraft Crossover Appears To Have Leaked Ahead Of Gen Con

An accidental Roll20 post has leaked what appears to be a major Dungeons & Dragons crossover with World of Warcraft. A full setting book is expected to be announced at Gen Con 2026. Here is what we know.

A significant crossover between Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft looks to have leaked several days early. An accidental blog post published briefly on Roll20 stated that pre-orders were already live for an official D&D product tied to World of Warcraft. The post was quickly removed, but screenshots and cached versions spread rapidly across Reddit, EN World, and other tabletop communities.

According to those who saw the post before it disappeared, the product is being framed as one of the largest crossovers in Dungeons & Dragons’ 50-year history. It appears to be a full campaign setting that would let players run Fifth Edition games in the world of Azeroth, complete with bespoke rules and new subclasses. Artwork associated with the leak reportedly drew from World of Warcraft: The War Within and the broader Worldsoul Saga.

Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard have not issued an official statement yet. However, the timing lines up with Gen Con 2026, which runs from July 30 to August 2 in Indianapolis. Wizards has already said it is “pulling out all the stops” for the show, and a major panel is scheduled for Thursday evening. Most observers expect the formal announcement to happen there.

This would not be the first time the two properties have crossed paths. In the early 2000s, White Wolf and Sword & Sorcery Studios released the Warcraft Roleplaying Game and later the World of Warcraft Roleplaying Game, both using a modified d20 system. Those books have been out of print for more than two decades. A modern Fifth Edition treatment would be the first official tabletop RPG support for Azeroth in a generation.

The leak also fits a broader pattern. Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks recently told interviewers that fans should "expect more crossovers inside of D&D." The company has already published several successful Universes Beyond-style products, most notably the Magic: The Gathering plane books that brought settings like Ravnica and Theros into Fifth Edition. A World of Warcraft setting would follow the same model while tapping into one of the biggest fantasy audiences in gaming.

Community reactions have been largely positive. Many D&D players are excited at the prospect of running campaigns in a richly detailed world they already know, while longtime WoW players see it as a chance to experience Azeroth in a slower, more narrative-driven format. Some have noted that the two games share deep roots in classic fantasy tropes, making the pairing feel natural rather than forced.

Until Wizards of the Coast or Blizzard confirm the details, everything remains unofficial. Still, the combination of the Roll20 post, the associated artwork, the pre-order language, and the Gen Con timing makes it one of the more credible crossover leaks in recent memory. If the announcement lands as expected later this week, players could soon have an official way to roll up characters and explore Azeroth using the current edition of Dungeons & Dragons.

Gen Con starts in just a couple of days. The full scope of the collaboration, including release window, exact contents, and any accompanying miniatures or accessories, should become clear once the official presentation takes place.
