League Of Legends Upcoming Patch 26.17 Nerfs Vayne To the Ground, And More Champ Adjustments

Riot Games has detailed the changes coming in League of Legends Patch 26.17, and the biggest story is a set of heavy nerfs to Vayne. The adjustments specifically target her strength in the top lane, where she has maintained a strong win rate with limited counterplay.

Lead gameplay designer Matt "Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison explained the reasoning. Vayne top can become tanky with items like Experimental Hexplate while still offering a strong laning phase and solid scaling. The goal of the nerfs is to leave her lane opponents with more health so they can better contest trades or survive ganks.

The Vayne changes are extensive and quite unneeded, she is absolute garbage tier from this. Her base health is being adjusted, attack speed growth is reduced, her Q mana cost is increased at early ranks, and her Silver Bolts (W) true damage is lowered both in percentage and minimum values. These hits land across her base stats and core damage identity, making the nerfs feel particularly harsh to players who have relied on her in top or even in her traditional bot lane role.

Beyond Vayne, the patch continues to address the broader bot lane situation. Mages remain viable in the role after previous adjustments, and Riot is not delivering further nerfs to roaming supports for now. Phroxzon noted that early pro play on the previous patch showed a decrease in extreme roaming and that the team wants to avoid over-punishing normal support movement. Xerath is still receiving nerfs after performing well in both bot and mid.

Several champions are receiving buffs. Aurelion Sol gets lower mana costs and a reduced cooldown on his W. Cho’Gath, Irelia, LeBlanc, Qiyana, Trundle, Yasuo, and Yone all see targeted increases to help their power levels. On the nerf side, Graves, Nasus, Nocturne, and Thresh join Vayne and Xerath in taking reductions.

Item changes are limited but notable. Stormrazor receives a buff to its attack speed, while Sundered Sky is being toned down with lower attack damage and health.
Patch 26.17 arrives as a follow-up to the previous update that finally addressed some of the mage bot lane dominance that had frustrated many players. While those earlier changes helped, the heavy Vayne nerfs have already drawn frustration from players who main the champion, particularly those who preferred her in top lane.

The full list of adjustments shows Riot continuing to fine-tune the current meta rather than doing a large overhaul of it. Vayne’s package of nerfs stands out as one of the more aggressive sets of changes in recent patches, directly aimed at reducing her ability to dominate lane while remaining difficult to punish. Yone and Yasuo buffs are nice but probably not needed.

Players will feel the impact of these changes once the patch goes live. For Vayne players in particular, the combination of base stat reductions and weaker Silver Bolts represents a significant drop in early-game strength and overall reliability. Whether the adjustments successfully open up more counterplay in top lane without overly damaging her bot lane presence will become clear once the data starts rolling in.
