Riot Games has confirmed that Champions Queue is making a comeback for League of Legends Worlds 2026, giving the pros at the event a place to practice against each other every night while fans watch along.

The official LoL Esports account announced the news yesterday (October 18th), shortly after the Swiss Stage draw show wrapped up. According to the post, Champions Queue will run nightly from 8 PM to 11 PM Pacific for the length of the Swiss Stage, and it will be set up as a solo queue environment where players from the qualified teams are matched against one another. LoL Esports also encouraged fans to keep an eye on their favorite pros so they can catch the action live on stream.

What Is Champions Queue?

For anyone who has not followed the pro scene closely, Champions Queue is a special matchmaking queue that is only open to professional players. Riot first introduced it in North America as a way to give pros higher quality practice than the regular ranked ladder, where a top player can easily end up in games with much weaker teammates or opponents. Every match in Champions Queue is filled with pros, so the games tend to be faster, sharper, and a lot more coordinated than a typical solo queue game.

It has also become a fun watch for fans. Many pros stream their Champions Queue games, which means viewers get to see players from rival regions sitting on the same team or going head-to-head well before they might meet on the main stage. At an international event like Worlds, that can produce some unusual lineups, with players from Korea, China, Europe, and the Americas all thrown into the same lobby.

Perfect Timing For The Swiss Stage

The timing lines up neatly with where the tournament is right now. The Play-In stage finished yesterday, with Karmine Corp sweeping MVK to claim the last spot in the Swiss Stage. LoL Esports then held the round one draw, which set up matches like T1 against Los Grandes, G2 Esports against Dplus KIA, Gen.G against Invictus Gaming, and Bilibili Gaming against Movistar KOI.

The Swiss Stage is where teams have the most to lose, since every win or loss pushes them closer to qualifying or being eliminated. LoL Esports also clarified after the draw that matches between 2-0 and 0-2 teams will be best-of-three, while the 1-1 matches will be best-of-one. Having a nightly block of high level practice should help teams sharpen their drafts and individual play between those series, especially for squads that are dealing with a new patch or a less familiar playstyle from another region.

Running the queue during set hours each night also makes it easier for fans to plan around. Anyone in North America can tune in during the evening, while viewers in Europe will be looking at early morning sessions and fans in Asia will catch it during the afternoon.

A Fan Favorite Feature Returns

Champions Queue at past international events has led to plenty of memorable moments, from star players getting stuck on the same team as rivals to pros trying out pocket picks they would never risk on stage. Those games often give fans a sneak peek at champions and strategies that later show up in official matches, which is a big part of why viewers keep coming back to the streams.

Riot has not shared whether Champions Queue will continue beyond the Swiss Stage and into the knockout rounds. The announcement only covers the Swiss Stage for now, so fans should keep an eye on the official LoL Esports channels for any updates once the bracket narrows down.

Will you be tuning in to watch the pros battle it out in Champions Queue each night, or are you saving your attention for the official Swiss Stage matches?
