Ahead of its launch next week, Sony and Bethesda have shared a new trailer for the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Deathloop. The trailer focuses on the story of the upcoming game, which sees players travel to a mysterious island caught in a timeloop, but there's no shortage of action-packed gameplay.
In Deathloop, you play as Colt, an assassin who wakes up on the beach of Blackreef island -- home of a former army base where strange experimentations had once been held -- with no memory or recollection of how he got there. Thanks to the Visionaries, eight "genius" scientists, the island is locked in a timeloop with the same night repeating over and over again. But while everyone's memory of the night before resets, Colt is seemingly able to retain his memories from the loop.
Who built this strange and mysterious laboratory base? Why is Colt there? Who is sending Colt these mysterious messages that help guide him? And how do you stop the timeloop? The trailer offers more mystery than answers which is why you'll have to play the game to learn more.
Deathloop is developed by Arkane Studios, the studio known for the Dishonored franchise. The visuals and the gameplay similarities are immediately noticeable, but the story of Deathloop seems to be a big hook.
Blackreef is a mystery, and Colt is looking for answers. Who are the Visionaries? What is Blackreef? How does the timeloop work? Why does everyone on the island have amnesia? Why is Julianna always lurking behind the nearest corner ready to ambush Colt? Most importantly, Colt wants to know: “Who am I?”
The deeper Colt goes down the rabbit hole, the more questions arise. One thing is for sure, Colt is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery and break the timeloop—no matter what answers he finds.
Deathloop launches on September 14, 2021 as a console exclusive for PlayStation 5. It will also be available on PC.
