Writer and director responsible for
The Last of Us and
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, has also finished the screenplay for the movie adaptation of Naughty Dog's
The Last of Us. His script is finished, but Sony and Columbia Pictures are busy with the movie version of
Uncharted (starring Tom Holland) and probably waiting to see how
Tomb Rider reboot does at the global box office to greenlight the movie.
In a new interview with IGN, Druckmann revealed that he’d rather never see a movie adaptation of
The Last of Us get made. “
…And even I worked on the script for The Last of Us film, which was a direct adaptation. And now, having some separation from it, I look back and be like, ‘I don’t want that movie to be made.’ Maybe there’s something that could be done in [that] world, either focusing on other characters or other time. But, for me – and I know for Naughty Dog and for a lot of our fans – Nolan North is Nathan Drake, Ashley Johnson is Ellie, Troy Baker is Joel. And it would be very disorienting to see someone else in that role," the director said.
Sony Pictures and Screen Gems first announced plans to make
The Last of Us movie in 2014. Sam Raimi (
Spider-Man, The Evil Dead) was attached to produce the adaptation based on Druckmann's script. After years of unproductive development,
The Last of Us finally entered development hell in 2016. As for now, Naughty Dog any Sony are focusing on the
Uncharted movie and
The Last of Us: Part II.
