The fifth episode of The Last of Us, "Endure and Survive," airs tomorrow night on HBO, and the network has released a new batch of promo stills to give viewers a better idea of what to expect.
Episode 4 concluded with Ellie and Joel waking up to find two mysterious new characters pointing guns at them. If you've played the game, you'll know that these guys are brothers named Henry and Sam, and it probably isn't giving too much away to mention that they turn out to be allies, not enemies.
The images also spotlight our first encounter with a terrifying Bloater (basically a giant Clicker whose been infected for a very long time).
The Last of Us is set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed and centers on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and the game's creator Neil Druckmann wrote and executive produced the show.
The first season will consist of 9 episodes.
