Blizzard finally put a face on the new World of Warcraft: Forever race. The Skyborne start on Zephras Isle, pick a faction immediately, and come with a class list that changes depending on which banner you salute.
They are not a third army sitting between Stormwind and Orgrimmar. The What's Next panel called them elemental hybrids who join the Horde or the Alliance at character create.They are a neutral race like the Pandaren in retail WOW: you choose a side, then you live there.
The shared classes are warrior, hunter, rogue, and druid. Horde Skyborne can roll shaman and lean on the elements. Alliance Skyborne can roll mage and follow Kirin Tor study. That is the whole official split so far. Paladin, priest, warlock, and the rest of the vanilla roster were not offered. Though we will get more details tomorrow. Druid shapeshift forms is a big selling point for them. Blizzard showed new forms in the auditorium instead of posting art. Bear, cat, travel, and moonkin all come in a sky-blue pass that does not exist on night elves or tauren. Nobody put a tree form on the slide. If restoration druids get a unique look, that detail is still sitting in Sunday's Deep Dive.
The default body reads as an elf to most of the room. They were first presented to have a sky-blue look, then pointed at a wider slider set: skin tones, hair, eyes, markings. Cosmetics on the shop use Shen'dorei names, the Skyseer's Garb and the Windwell toy among them, which pulls the wardrobe toward Highborne language even while the design team keeps saying hybrid.
That gap is why the pre-show rumor cycle felt so sure of itself. A leaked render made the rounds in late August as a Skyborne high elf, complete with the old Alliance-leaning read: blue eyes, Silvermoon cousins who never took the blood elf name. Datamined banners and a windwell were already in Midnight-era files. Saturday's panel did not confirm that genealogy. It also did not throw the elf silhouette away. Zephras Isle is where the 1-12 story is supposed to explain the rest.
Zephras is a new island start, not a reskin of Northshire or the Valley of Trials. Pack copy ties the race and that intro together. You do not get one without the other. Once you leave the island, Skyborne drop into the same Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor climb as everyone else, including the Riverglades midgame and the Hyjal endgame the rest of Forever is built around.
Access is a shop pack on top of a normal WoW subscription. Forever itself works like Classic: pay for game time, make a character. The Skyborne and the Zephras questline require at least the Skyborne Heroic Pack, listed at $29.99. That tier includes the race, the island start, early name reservation from October 27 through November 3, the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount, the Shen'dorei transmog, a rucksack, the Windwell toy that also works in modern WoW, Skyborne housing decor for Midnight, and one Invite-A-Friend launch code.
Beta access is not on Heroic. The Skyborne Epic Pack stacks the test, which runs September 17 through October 21, plus 30 days of game time at launch, extra pets and tabards, a matching bear set, and two more invite codes. The limited Warcraft Forever Collection adds Warcraft III: Reforged and the new Forsaken Kingdom campaign. Name reservation is first come, first served. Blizzard is not promising your exact tag.
Racial abilities have not been published. The panel said racials across Forever are being rewritten so they feel distinct, then parked the fine print for later. Same for animations beyond those druid forms. The show-floor client and Thursday's beta are the first places most people will see idle poses, casts, and whether the sky-blue moonkin survives a Barrens corpse run.
Community reaction split on two lines at once. Some players wanted any new body in vanilla-plus and will take the pack. Others wanted high elves with no extra checkout, or a race that did not look like another elf variant with a weather filter. The official answer is a paid starting experience, a faction choice at level 1, and a class list that refuses to give both sides the same caster.
