Blizzard used the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 to put a name and a date on the version of vanilla Azeroth players have been asking for. World of Warcraft: Forever is the official Classic+ product, and it launches in a few weeks on November 4, 2026.

The beta begins even sooner. Testing opens on September 17, and BlizzCon attendees can get a look on the show floor before that. From the stage, the company framed the wait as 52 days. It's no surprise that date did more work than the slogan.

World Of Warcraft Forever will be vanilla Azeroth treated as a place that keeps growing instead of a museum replica. Blizzard said Forever will live alongside the modern and Classic teams, with the world itself as the main character. The line the room heard was simple: there is no rush, the journey counts more than the destination, and the game should be easy to enter and deep enough to stay in. Check out the new cinematic below:

The New Horizons cinematic leans on that homecoming tone. It brings back the dwarf hunter and his bear from the original World of Warcraft trailer, then walks them past Khaz Modan and into other familiar ground. Dalaran appears outside the energy dome that used to hide it. An undead paladin shows up next, Light running hot enough to read as fire. The camera then finds Mount Hyjal, with the bones of Archimonde still marking the slope.

That last image is not just trailer flavor. Blizzard listed Mount Hyjal among the new zones in Forever, alongside Zephras Isle and the Riverglades, plus expansions of original vanilla regions. Some outlets recapped the map work as three remade classic zones and three new ones. Either way, the company is not shipping a frozen 2004 snapshot with a new login screen.

The content list from the ceremony is the part Classic+ arguments have been circling for years. Forever adds new dungeons, new 10-player and 20-player raids, a new battleground on the Darkspear Islands, new skills and talent trees, more reputations, extra profession work, and more than 1,000 new quests, items, and rewards. Account-wide perks are in the package. World lighting and visuals are getting an update, with a toggle between the original SD look and an updated HD pass.

Race and class rules are moving too. Undead paladins are the combination Blizzard put on the trailer and on the slide. The new playable race is the Skyborne, which we covered earlier seems to be confirmed. New race and class pairings sit next to those two headlines, which is the kind of change private servers made ordinary and official Classic never fully owned.

The timeline Blizzard described is early vanilla. Forever is set in year one of the original game, before Molten Core. Players still level to 60. After that, the plan is to keep building at that cap instead of opening a new tier and leaving the old one behind. New raids, quests, and stories are supposed to keep arriving in that same window. Progression stays. The usual expansion habit of abandoning last year's accomplishments does not.

That is a different job than Season of Discovery had. SoD already tested the idea of a living Classic season with new runes, raids, and systems on a familiar skeleton. Forever is the larger bet: a separate home for vanilla-plus that Blizzard says can keep getting horizontal content instead of a one-season experiment.

It also arrives after a stretch where unofficial servers did a lot of that work in public. TurtleWoW and other Classic-plus projects spent years adding races, quests, and zones the official realms would not touch, then ran into Blizzard legal pressure through 2026. The company is now selling the official version of the thing those communities kept proving people wanted.

Access is already being tied to storefront packs. The official trailer page says players who pre-purchase the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection get into the September 17 beta. Full edition breakdowns and prices were not on the Battle.net shop page at the time of the announcement, so the only confirmed hook so far is that those two products are the early-entry path.

More of the design is supposed to land in the What's Next panel after the ceremony and in a Deep Dive the following morning. Raid names, talent details, and how the Skyborne actually play were not part of the opening package. The dates were.

November 4 is close enough that Classic guilds will start making calendar calls this week. September 17 is close enough that the beta will answer the first practical questions before the arguments cool off: how vanilla it feels with new class combos in the mix, whether 10-player and 20-player raids change the social math, and if a level 60 world can stay interesting when Blizzard promises it will not move on.
