With World of Warcraft: Forever launching on November 4, a lot of players are still staring at the character creation screen in their heads. New races, reworked classes, talent changes and a last-minute racial pass have made the classic "what should I main" question harder than ever.
We have broken down each one below, along with which racials back them up after Blizzard Entertainment's final tuning pass.
5. Frost Mage
Mages are the best for AoE leveling, where every pull becomes a small puzzle to solve. Mage also brings huge quality of life with portals and conjured food, and is one of the best classes for boosting alts and making gold.
Frost also looks strong in PvP thanks to Fingers of Frost, Shatter and Flamestrike combos, and Mages are so strong in Battlegrounds with sheeps and CC that teams often bring multiple. The race picks are Undead for Will Of The Forsaken, Orc as a close second, and Human which are solid now with new racials.
4. Protection Paladin
Protection Paladin finally has the toolkit it always lacked. Now that it has hard taunts, real defensive cooldowns, fixed mana problems and proper itemization in Forever. On top of being the tank everyone wants for dungeons, Prot is also an S-tier gold farmer, especially in Stratholme and Scholomance.
Human paladins are a classic, followed by Undead since they are the only horde paladins.
3. Holy/Discipline Priest
PvP healing is pretty busted. You can sit in Holy for Prayer of Mending, then go into Discipline for Mana Burn and its regen talents. The nice thing is the same build can work in both PvE and PvP. Tanks are probably the bigger bottleneck in dungeons, but good healers are always in short supply in PvP and sometimes PvE, so you will never be short on groups.
2. Marksmanship/Survival Hunter
Hunters got a lot of love in Forever. Pets now scale with your crit both offensively and defensively, and they bring new tools like the Entrapment trap package, Curse of Tongues style effects and Mortal Strike style debuffs. Hunters might be the best pick for players without a lot of time, since it levels fast, is very self-reliant, and early sims show Marksmanship and Survival doing strong damage. And honestly, I always play a hunter first time through in new content.
Troll hunters will be awesome with their passives and Orcs have command back which will make your pets even better! Can't go wrong with either. For alliance I would go Night Elf for the movespeed and crit.
1. Demonology Warlock
Demonology Warlock takes the top spot in our book. Demonic Brand and pet scaling mean you no longer have to sacrifice your pet, Soul Shards are much easier to manage, and Soul Link sits earlier in the tree for plenty of hybrid builds. I would go Orc for PvE and Undead for PVP on the Horde or Human on the Alliance. We put together a full look at Blizzard's Warlock, Druid and Priest reworks if you want more details.

A few extra tips before you commit:
- If you want to make gold for your alts, Mage and Prot Paladin are the two picks Kargoz singles out.
- If you have limited playtime, Hunter is the most forgiving way to level.
- If you plan on PvP realms, remember that Blizzard is not protecting low-level players from ganking, so a class that can escape or fight back early is worth a lot.
- Can't decide? Pack owners can reserve up to three character names before launch, so you can lock in a name for each finalist.
