As showcased at PlayStation Experience, there are a ton of upcoming games for fans to get excited for. But perhaps nothing is as eagerly anticipated as The Last of Us Part 2, the sequel to Naughty Dog's 2013 action-adventure. While we unfortunately didn't get a new trailer for The Last of Us Part 2, there nearly hour-long panel did contain a few tidbits of juicy details.
For one, we learned no one is safe in The Last of Us Part 2. "There are states - there are real stakes," said Neil Druckmann, director and co-writer on the game. "With The Last of Us, no one is safe. We want people to go into The Last of Us: Part 2, especially with this theme [of hate] and what we're trying to say with this game, is knowing that no one is safe--not even these two [Joel and Ellie]."
Druckmann reiterated that while the main theme of The Last of Us was love, the theme of its sequel is "hate," which was pretty clearly demonstrated in the brutal trailer from Paris Games Week.
While concrete details were scant, we did get confirmation that a "large part" of the game takes place in Seattle, Washington.
We also learned that co-writer Halley Gross, who worked on the HBO series Westworld and is now co-writing The Last of Us Part 2, brought some "awesome ideas" to the table. Druckmann admitted that when he was first going over the story with Gross, he had already had a comfortable grasp on the beginning and ending of the game, but wasn't sure about the "giant middle part." Druckmann didn't outright spoil any of Gross' ideas, but did offer an intriguing tease: "After the first day, Halley goes home and talks to her husband, and she's like, 'I think I got someone pregnant.' And you'll see what that means."
As for Naughty Dog's progress, Druckmann estimates the game is about 50-60 percent complete and that fans should expect more details - and gameplay - at E3 2018.
