In spite of the fanbase being somewhat split right now, The Last of Us Part II has been doing quite alright in regards to sales. This isn't quite surprising, considering that most people went in blind, and purchased the game out of love for the first title; those disappointed with the game found out the hard way.
What's surprising is the fact that in spite of the leaks, which pretty much gave away the most important details about the game's story, The Last of Us Part II still sold well. As a matter of fact, not only three days after the game launched worldwide, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the latest entry in Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed series had sold a staggering 4 million copies.
PlayStation also revealed that The Last of Us Part II had managed to top the PlayStation Store charts for the month of June, although they didn't reveal how many copies were sold. This is also quite remarkable, considering that those numbers only considered digital sales.
NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella has revealed that Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II has also managed to become June's best-selling game, and has also made its way into the top-selling games of the year, taking the third place after Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare; the latter being number 1.
Particularly on the PlaySation 4, however, The Last of Us Part II dethroned Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the best-selling game for the month of June. Interestingly enough, the game is trailing after Insomniac's critically acclaimed MARVEL's Spider-Man as the second biggest launch for a Sony published title.
