After playing Spider-Man 2, many gamers are convinced that Insomniac is planning either a spin-off revolving around Daredevil or DLC which will bring the Man Without Fear into this particular Marvel Universe (it is, after all, about time the wall-crawler crosses paths with his fellow superheroes).
Insomniac is hard at work on a Wolverine game set in the same world, so only time will tell what the future holds in store for Daredevil.
In the meantime, images and footage from 5,000 Ft Studios' cancelled Daredevil: The Man Without Fear game have been revealed. Originally set to be released on PlayStation 2 in 2004, it was scrapped shortly before it was finished.
A version of the game, which is playable, has been acquired by The Hidden Palace, offering further insights into what fans could have expected from the Frank Miller-inspired third-person beat 'em up. It's a product of its time but there's no denying it had the potential to be a lot of fun.
It's said the story was based on the "Elektra Lives Again" comic book, while the game was going to kick off with The Kingpin's assassination. Rival gangs then go to war, leaving Daredevil to try and save Hell's Kitchen.
As for why Daredevil: The Man Without Fear didn't happen, Sony reportedly pushed for a grinding mechanic similar to the one seen in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, resulting in major issues with the game's engine. As they continued demanding changes to the title, Marvel decided to pull the plug due to it veering too far from what they originally planned.
Spider-Man 2's senior creative director Bryan Intihar was recently asked about the sequel's Daredevil Easter Egg (the "Nelson & Murdock" sign was missing when the game launched but has since been added in a patch), and said only, "That's a good question. Stay tuned. Good find though."
Since then, eagle-eyed gamers have also unearthed a strange room which appears to have ties to The Hand, the group of ninjas Daredevil frequently battles in the comics.
While it's possible 'ol Hornhead will appear in Spider-Man 2 DLC or Spider-Man 3, we can't discount the possibility Insomniac might be plotting an entire game revolving around Matt Murdock.
