Rejoice! The PS4 Is Finally Getting External Hard Drive Support

A forthcoming update for Sony's PlayStation 4 will finally allow the console to have an external USB hard drive, one of the few advantages Microsoft's Xbox One enjoyed over the best-selling system.

Sony revealed today that Update 4.5 for the PlayStation will allow external hard drive support.  So if you're a big gamer and getting increasingly frustrated juggling and swapping out games and DLC as you run out of memory, that's soon to become a thing of the past.  When this update will be rolled out is a mystery but it goes into Beta testing today.

For many, the lack of external hard drive support was  a deciding factor in choosing an Xbox One over a PS4 (that, and a lower price point). But it seems the Xbone will soon lose one of its advantages.  One other interesting development will be what happens to all of the PS4 consoles that were sold at a higher price because of a larger internal hard drive?  The fact that you can just buy a USB and quadruple the memory of the lowest model should drive the current price down.

As Sony releases more details and updates, we'll be sure to relay the info so stay tuned to GameFragger.
