After a lot of speculation from fans, it's now been confirmed that PlayStation Experience won't take place this year, something many gamers had assumed when Sony didn't announce any details on the convention, which they typically do by this time of the year.
The official confirmation came from Sony Interactive Entertainment chairman Shawn Layden, who appeared on the PSBlogcast to share the news and cited a lack of content as the reason for the decision.
"Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we're looking down in 2019 to games like Dreams and Days Gone, but we wouldn't have enough to bring people together in some location in North America to have that event," Layden explained. "We don't want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it."
The PlayStation Experience began in 2014, and 2018 will be the first year that the event wasn't held in North America. While not as big as other events like E3, the yearly convention from Sony is dedicated entirely to the PlayStation brand and is often a source of information on the system's exclusive games.
