There have been several rumors and real stories making the rounds about the PlayStation 5, and one of them is squarely about the price. The recent rumor from a so-called developer claims the system will go on sale for $500, and it now seems as if that piece if the information is correct.
In a recent interview with Wired writer Peter Rubin, the PlayStation 5’s lead architect, Mark Cerny, stated that the price of the console will be appealing to gamers everywhere.
“I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP [suggested retail price] that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set,” according to Cerny.
His response in regards to the price of the PlayStation 5 is quite interesting because it gives us the impression that it won’t be cheap. The fact that he used the words “advanced feature set” is a sign that the system will come with a lot of bells and whistles, and such things are never cheap.
We know the console will be capable of supporting games at 8K, though chances are, those games are likely indie titles. With that in mind, then, it’s pretty difficult to believe Sony has the capabilities to release an 8K video game system at $399.
E3 2019 is right around the corner, but Sony won’t be attending. That means gamers might have to wait until after the show to learn more about the PlayStation 5 and what it aims to bring to the table.
