It's been a while since we've seen or heard anything related to Arcane Season 2. A first look trailer for the long-awaited sophomore season was released a few months ago, but other than that, there hasn't been much -- until now.
The official Twitter/X account of the Arcane series shared a new poster for Season 2, and it's a chilling nod to the Season 1 artwork. The new poster features the sisters, Jinx and Vi, in an embrace that draws parallels with the artwork from the season.
Whereas the Season 1 poster featured younger versions of the siblings, with Vi comforting a wide-eyed, scared Powder, the poster for the upcoming season shows the younger sister -- now fully embracing her Jinx persona -- actually holding Vi, who almost looks scared or in disbelief over what her sister has become.
The caption reads: "Nothing ever stays dead."
In the context of the poster, this could be referring to their relationship. However, more than likely it's in reference to Vander, the adoptive father of both Vi and Jinx who was seemingly killed in the first season.
Of course, if you watched the full first season of the show, you probably already know Vander is likely to return, albeit as something completely different. There's speculation that the character of Vander is actually Warwick before he was transformed by Singed's experiments. This has yet to be confirmed by Riot, but there are numerous hints in both the animated series and the League of Legends video game that is is based on that hint towards this.
In fact, even the first teaser trailer for Arcane Season 2 suggested Vander has been transformed into Warwick. If you recall, the first teaser trailer released months ago shows Singed performing some sort of augmentation and experimentation on a body. When the camera zoomed out, we saw a massive wolf-like beast suspended in the air. It's believed that this is Warwick.
Riot and Netvlix have already confirmed that Season 2 of Arcane will premiere in November of this year, however, we still don't have an exact date. This poster was released just days before Summer Game Fest though, which could suggest that we'll finally get a premiere date at the annual gaming event.
In the meantime, you can stream all episodes of the first season on Netflix. The series, which is based on the popular MOBA League of Legends, was met with critical acclaim -- praised for its animation, story and worldbuilding, characters, voice acting, and more -- was the first streaming series to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program.
