The Wii U's Final Game Will Be THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD

Nintendo has confirmed that the final game for the Wii U will be the Switch launch title, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But what about its large Splatoon and Mario Kart community?

Following the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there will be no new games released on the Wii U as Nintendo shifts all of its focus onto the Switch, which launches in March.  Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed the news in an interview with Polygon. Said Fils-Aime, "From a first-party standpoint, there's no new development coming after the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  We really are at the end of life for Wii U."  However, Fils-Aime stated that support for the Wii U's large Mario Kart and Splatoon communities will continue.  However, with new Mario Kart and Splatoon titles slated to hit the Switch before the end of 2017, it likely won't be long until the Wii U is completely abandoned.

The Wii U was the successor to the Wii and was launched in November 2012. As of June 2016, the console has sold approximately 13.36 million units, compared to the 101 million Wii consoles that have been sold since its launch back in 2006. As such, the Wii U has been viewed as a colossal failure as Nintendo lost a ton of third-part support and fell way behind Sony and Microsoft in the console wars.
