"When we do like E3, can we kick all the journalists out and bring you guys in, cause you're fun!"
What better way for Cliff Bleszinski to kick off the Gears of War 2 Panel at last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con? It was his first Comic-Con, and he was having a blast.
Overall, there wasn't a ton of new information that came out of the San Diego Comic-Con. We did get to hear from Karen Traviss, the author of the upcoming book, and her fascination with boots and cleaning a Lancer. We also heard from Joshua Ortega, lead writer for the upcoming comic book.
We recorded everything we could from the Gears of War 2 Panel, but our batteries died without about 10 minutes left, right before they started the Q&A session.
If you'd like to see the video, head over to the Gears of War 2 videos area!
Here are the highlights from the panel:
- You DO get to ride Reavers
- You DO get to ride Brumacks
- The soundtrack just finished up recording
- Linked Achievements
- Complete Act 1 in Gears of War 1: Unlock Anthony Carmine
- Find 10 COG tags in GoW1: Unlock Minh Young Kim
- Kill Raam in GoW1: Unlock Raam in multiplayer
- Carmine is back! It's actually Benjamin Carmine, Anthony Carmine's brother
- Active reload on the Longshot does NOT give an automatic down with a hit
- You can melee locust, and if you're good enough, shoot them in the air and blow them up
- There are Co-Op puzzles, including the crane area in the Sinkhole level that they've showed off at both E3 and the San Diego Comic-Con
Cliff Bleszinski also hinted at a Amazon.com package deal including the Collector's Edition of the game, and a full-size Lancer replica (which was on display at the NECA booth).
"If you could buy the Lancer and Gears 2 for like $130 bucks, which is just unheard of, and I'm like, you guys, there's no way you're making money on this, you're doing this as a labor of love."
Other cool Gears related items at the San Deigo Comic-Con: The NECA booth also had a Comic-Con exclusive Anthony Carmine action figure available (needless to say we picked a few up). The Xbox booth had a Comic-Con exclusive Gears of War 2 poster available.
