We've long known that Microsoft and Sony have both jumped in a cloud partnership, much to the surprise of many. Sony intends on using Microsoft Azure for their video game streaming ambitions, and the software giant stands to benefit a great deal.
CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, stated in an interview with Fortune, that the cloud deal was driven by Sony. The Japanese company was shopping around, and by the end of the spree, they came to the conclusion that Microsoft was the best and most trusted option.
Not only that, but Satya made it clear that his company is dependent on Sony's success.
"First of all, it's all driven by Sony," he said. "They looked at who are all their partners that they can trust. In fact, it turns out, even though we've competed, we've also partnered.
"Basically and fundamentally the fact that we have a business model in the areas that they're partnering with us, where we're dependent on their success. So we will do the best job for them, whether it's in cloud or whether it's in AI or what have you, in order to make sure that Sony can succeed with their own IP creation."
Time will tell if this partnership turns out well for both companies in the long run because Google and Amazon are right there, and they are gunning for a piece of the pie in the gaming industry.
As for Nintendo, we wouldn’t be too surprised if the company follows Sony a draw closer relationship with Microsoft in the years to come.
