It's been nearly five years since Microsoft first announced a live-action Halo TV show as part of Xbox's TV programming initiative. But, as Microsoft transitioned away from the "all-in-one" console - with a focus more on games - we haven't heard much regarding the television project, which was being guided by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg. Well, according to executives at Showtime, it's still in the works.

Speaking to TV Guide, Showtime President and CEO David Nevins said, "[It's] still in very active development." Although he wouldn't comment further, Nevins did reveal that he's seen scripts for it.

Offering a bit more on the project, Gary Levine, Showtime's president of programming, told TV Guide that Halo "is absolutely still in development, still moving forward and I'm encouraged by what we've seen so far." Again, no specific details were offered, but he did tease, "It's still live action, and it will definitely satisfy fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime."

It's hard to get too excited about these statements given that we've heard the "still in very active development" line before (back in 2015). Still, as Halo is easily one of Microsoft's most popular franchises, Xbox enthusiasts are undoubtedly waiting to hear and see more from the flagship series.
