Command & Conquer: Rivals was officially announced at EA PLAY 2018 and has been a major subject of controversy among players and fans of the RTS series ever since. Considering that one of
Rivals' biggest accomplishments is having the most disliked trailer of last year's E3 with over 66,000 dislikes on YouTube alone, it shouldn't be surprising that the new mobile title is simply underperforming.
According to EA, "
since [Rival's] global release, it is not driven in stores organically at the levels we anticipated," we read in the company's Q3 2019 earnings call transcript. "
We are now working to bring more players into that game." The fact that devices with iOS and Android are the most lucrative gaming platforms nowadays, with
Fortnite's mobile port generating even more profit than the standard console and PC versions, it's clear that the publisher won't give up on the title anytime soon.
"
We continue to be committed to mobile. We believe in the value of our franchise in the marketplace, and we are doubling down on these games through live services," EA CEO Andrew Wilson added, teasing new mobile versions of their big-budget hits, such as
Apex Legends and
Anthem.
What may affect the game's performance is
Rival’s very nature as it doesn't feature any single-player modes and is focused solely on the real-time player versus player gameplay. The good news is that EA is developing remakes of the first two
Command & Conquer games that are coming exclusively to PC.
