Terminator: Survivors has been delayed once again. We've been covering the long-awaited open-world survival game -- a first for the franchise -- for a few years now, but updates have been far and few between.

This week, Nacon Studio Creative Director Marco Ponte shared an end-of-year update regarding the game's status. Unfortunately, there's not much to celebrate or for fans to look forward to.

In short, Terminator: Survivors has been delayed indefinitely. This is the second major delay for the game which was originally supposed to launch in early access for PC in October 2024. However, it was pushed back to a broad 2025 launch window, and now it has clearly missed that as well. Now, Nacon Studio has entirely scrapped plans for an early access launch.

"We want your first steps into the wasteland to be a complete and polished experience," explained Ponte. "We don't have a new date locked in, but we'll let you know when we're ready to share a new release date."

Additionally, Nacon Studio has removed the cooperative multiplayer aspect, effectively turning Terminator: Survivors into a full-fledged single-player experience.

"After months of internal testing, discussions with players and fans of the license, we came to the conclusion that to give you an authentic “Terminator” experience with the best possible shooting and exploration gameplay, we would have to put aside the cooperative multiplayer," Ponte revealed. "We know this may come as a disappointment, but we believe it is the right creative direction for an uncompromising vision of the world after Judgment Day."

Despite these changes, Ponte assured fans that 2025 has been a productive year for the studio. "Though we’ve been quiet, we haven’t been idle; this year has been productive and we’ve made important progress across all fronts, from world design and combat to narrative depth and atmosphere," he added.

As I mentioned, Terminator: Survivors is the franchise's first open-world survival game.  Set a few years after Skynet attained self-awareness and launched its global nuclear assault, humanity is now fragmented and living in small pockets of alliances and factions, fighting for their own survival. Players are tasked with surviving this harsh post-apocalyptic world,a ll while being hunted by a single relentless T-800. Terminator: Survivors was originally designed to be played solo or cooperative as you work together to scavenged resources to build a base of operations for mankind. However, now you'll truly be on your own.

"You'll be immersed in a bleak story where every machine patrolling the open world is a lethal threat, and the chilling sight of a T-800's red eyes on the horizon means you run, you hide, or you die…" the description teases. "Your journey will be one of desperation, as you explore, fight Skynet’s first prototypes, and help the resistance rise from the ashes of civilization. This isn’t just another shooter. It’s a fight for the survival of all humanity from the moment you step out of the rubble. The start of the resistance against the machines, as seen through your eyes."
