Detective Pikachu will be releasing into theatres in three days time. Following the immensely positive reaction to its trailers, fans are hotly anticipating the live-action
Pokemon film. With the release encroaching fast and fans hopeful that the film will prove to be a masterpiece, one can only imagine how nervous the film's director is right now.
Rob Letterman, the director of
Detective Pikachu, recently sat down for an interview with
Comicbook.com wherein he discussed wanting to appease the fanbase's expectations. Letterman explained that he's nervous but hopeful that the fans will appreciate the film and accept it as a part of the franchise.
I'm really nervous. I just want it to do well, and I want people to enjoy it. I especially want the hardcore fans to appreciate it and give it the blessing that we worked really hard to get.
Further on, Letterman talked about working with The Pokemon Company and the original creators of the series in order to properly do the Pokemon franchise justice on the big-screen, in live-action.
We worked closely with The Pokemon Company and the original creators. There was a lot of respect and care put into the movie. It's a new region, and a new storyline, but it is a part of the overall Pokemon universe. And we want the Pokemon to be done right.
It sounds as if the people who worked on the film are truly invested in the franchise. Here's hoping the care and effort pays off.
Detective Pikachu is set to release in theatres on May 10th, 2019.
