Detective Pikachu has finally arrived in theatres. The film sees Tim Goodman (played by Justice Smith) team up with his missing father's Pokemon partner (played by Ryan Reynolds) in order to figure out what happened to him. Naturally, all is resolved by the time the credits roll. While Tim began the story hesitant to even adopt a Pokemon, by the end of it, it seems that he's all for the adorable creatures.
The film reveals that, when he was younger, Tim was obsessed with
Pokemon in much the same way a fan of the franchise is in real life. He wanted to be a Pokemon trainer one day. Eventually, the character moved away from that dream and instead got a job at an insurance company.
Justice Smith, the actor behind Tim, recently spoke with
Comicbook.com about where he imagines the character is headed following the credits. Smith believes that Tim will finally fulfill his childhood ambition of becoming a Pokemon trainer, while following in his father's footsteps and being a detective at the same time. After all, Pokemon trainers to seem to have multiple occupations, as Smith explained:
Tim loved Pokemon as a kid and he wanted to be a Pokemon trainer, so I would love to see him one day become a trainer. Then again, he's following the family line of doing detective work. I want him to create this new breed of Pokemon trainers who are also detectives. You know how in the game, you go and see the gym trainers? Like fisherman Ike wants to battle you. Gymnast Misty wants to battle you. They all have occupations and they're also trainers! That's kind of what I want.
